New at Dream Therapy, Sunderland

In our busy lives, it can be easy to forget just how important it is to slow down and give our bodies time to rest.

At Dream Therapy, we are always looking for gentle, nurturing treatments that can support our clients' wellbeing — and we are delighted to now offer Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD).

MLD is a wonderfully gentle treatment using slow, rhythmic movements to support the body's natural lymphatic flow. Unlike traditional massage, the movements are light rather than deep, making it a particularly calming treatment for anyone looking to relax, unwind and take some time for themselves.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

The lymphatic system is an important part of the body. It helps maintain fluid balance and plays a role in the body's immune system.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised hands-on technique using gentle, rhythmic movements over the body.

The treatment is very different from a traditional massage. There is no deep pressure or vigorous kneading. Instead, the movements are slow, light and repetitive.

For many people, this makes MLD a deeply relaxing experience.

What can Manual Lymphatic Drainage help with?

MLD can be incorporated into a wider wellbeing routine and may be particularly appealing if you are looking for a gentle treatment to support relaxation and your body's natural processes.

Clients may choose MLD to support:

🌿 Relaxation and stress reduction

The slow and rhythmic nature of MLD can encourage a feeling of relaxation. Taking an hour or 90 minutes away from everyday responsibilities can also give you valuable time to pause and reset.

💧 Fluid movement

MLD is designed to encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid through the body. Some people choose lymphatic treatments when they are experiencing feelings of puffiness or heaviness.

🌸 Bloating and digestive wellbeing

Gentle abdominal techniques can be incorporated into an MLD treatment where appropriate. Some clients find this soothing when they are experiencing feelings of abdominal bloating or discomfort.

🤍 Supporting wellbeing after certain procedures

MLD can sometimes form part of post-operative care following certain procedures. However, suitability and timing depend on the individual and the type of procedure.

If you have recently had surgery, you should speak with your healthcare professional before booking. Medical clearance may be required.

🧘‍♀️ Time to slow down

One of the biggest benefits of any wellbeing treatment can simply be having time for yourself.

There is something very soothing about lying comfortably, switching off your phone and allowing yourself to be cared for.

At Dream Therapy, we believe that time for yourself is essential — not an indulgence.

What does an MLD treatment feel like?

If you have never experienced Manual Lymphatic Drainage before, you may be surprised by how gentle it is.

Rather than firm massage pressure, your therapist uses light, rhythmic movements across the body.

Some clients find the experience incredibly calming and may feel very relaxed during or after their treatment.

Your comfort is always our priority. Before your treatment, we will talk through your needs and explain what to expect.

60 or 90 minutes — which should I choose?

60-Minute MLD — £65

Our 60-minute treatment is a lovely introduction to Manual Lymphatic Drainage and gives you time to experience the gentle techniques while enjoying a relaxing wellbeing treatment.

90-Minute MLD — £85

If you would like more time to relax or would benefit from a longer treatment, our 90-minute option allows additional time for the treatment and a more immersive experience.

If you're unsure which option is right for you, we are always happy to discuss it with you.

MLD as part of your wellbeing routine

At Dream Therapy, we don't believe wellbeing is about waiting until you feel overwhelmed before you look after yourself.

Small, regular acts of self-care can become part of a healthier routine — whether that is taking time for a treatment, getting enough rest, moving your body, eating well, spending time outdoors or simply allowing yourself to switch off.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage can be one part of that bigger picture.

It's not about fixing everything in one treatment.

It's about giving your body and mind time, care and attention.

Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage suitable for everyone?

Although MLD is very gentle, it isn't suitable for everyone.

Please tell us before booking if you:

  • Have recently had surgery

  • Have a medical condition

  • Have an infection or are feeling unwell

  • Are pregnant or have recently given birth

  • Have a history of blood clots or thrombosis

  • Have a heart or kidney condition

  • Have unexplained swelling

  • Have been advised by a healthcare professional to avoid massage or lymphatic treatments

If you are unsure whether MLD is suitable for you, please speak with your doctor or healthcare professional before booking.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a complementary wellbeing treatment and does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment.

Ready to experience MLD?

If you're looking for something gentle, calming and nurturing, Manual Lymphatic Drainage could be a beautiful addition to your self-care routine.
